If you’re thinking of buying your first home, saving up for a downpayment might feel like a stretch. The sheer thought of having to cut back on leisure activities to save your dollars doesn’t seem like the most fun thing to do.
But saving up for your home doesn’t have to mean sacrificing all your pleasure. Even if you’re on a budget, you can still do fun activities and explore your neighborhood. I’ve found that the best way to explore your area is when you don’t have a ton of money to spend… because you’ll do some creative activities you may not have considered.
If you’re open to trying some new activities while you save up for your dream home, there are quite a few activities you can do in Roseville for free or very little money.
Here’s a list of seven activities you can do in Roseville for free (or $10 or less)
Note: The majority of these activities happen during the summertime in Roseville. The summer is when you can often find great deals. But that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to do some of these activities during other times of the year. It just depends on your level of exploration.
You can attend a free concert in the park in Roseville. The concerts in the park have local musicians that will play anything from jazz to rock.
Concerts in the park can be the perfect way to get out of the house and support musicians in our local community. You never know who may be the next Kenny G on the saxophone. What’s great about the concert in the park is that they also may serve drinks and cuisine. That way you’ll get the best of both worlds – great music AND great food!
Geo-caching is something that not many people know about, but it’s a fun way to explore your city.
Geo-caching is a popular game when you’re given clues to find an object hidden within your city.
As you look for clues you may be taken to different areas of your local neighborhood allowing you to not only explore, but play a fun game of treasure hunt in the process. The best part is that geo-caching might not cost any more than a tank of gas. And it can make a really fun time for you and your family.
Movie night in the park happens during the summer months. It’s the perfect opportunity for you to get out of the house and enjoy a special movie with a picnic. The movies in the park are geared for all age ranges so if you happen to be someone who has kiddos at home (or you simply love a magical movie that takes you back to simpler times), movie night in the park may be something you should try.
It can also be a fun date to take your significant other. Make sure to bring a blanket to sit and you can even make it more cost-effective by bringing your own snacks to chop down on during the movie.
If during the busy week you’re just looking to get a little relaxation and don’t feel like cooking, you may want to try some of the local restaurants in our area during the weekday. One restaurant known for its’ live jazz music, spectacular assortment of wines and its tasty American cuisine is the House of Oliver.
Right now, House of Oliver only plays live jazz music on the weekends. However, if you visit the House of Oliver during the week, you may be able to get a special deal on a shared plate. You can even create an assortment of tasty dishes If you’re enjoying a drink with a friend or partner to bring the costs down.
Another local restaurant you can try is House of Oliver’s sister restaurant Pink Martini. Pink Martini is located right on the edge of Roseville in Rocklin. And throughout the week they have specials on drinks and even gourmet tacos on Tuesdays for under $10. Just make sure to get on their text message alerts list.
If you’re someone who prefers to spend their time outdoors experiencing nature’s serene beauty, then you may want to consider taking some time for a walk down Miners Ravine Trail.
This trail is located in the Placer county area and is great for beginners to advanced level hikers. The trail’s also suitable for riding your bike as well.
If you’re not sure how to get to Miners Ravine Trail you can do so by downloading the AllTrails app. You will be able to get directions straight to the trail from your current location. I’d suggest going in the morning to avoid the hot summer weather. But feel free to do whatever works best for you since no matter what, it’s still a great experience. Many reviews of the trail describe the trail as not overly populated. But if you do run into some other trail walkers, don’t be surprised if they flash a nice smile your way.
